Another Hamfest has come and passed. But with it, additional memories with friends from across the area keep this a great event.

I have written about this event on several occasions and have found one key item that makes this special.... It is spirit. We run and witness the crowds and sparkle while going to the different events around the region. But what several of these event are missing is what the spirit of amateur radio really is. The long term friendships that have been forged over the years being able to come together in a stress free setting to chew the rag and truly get to know each other.

Your see, the open air forum of this tailgate event allows for the "Espirit de Corps". I spent much of my time in a camping chair sitting under a couple of trees and chatting with every one meandering by. There isn't any pushing or lines nor is there loud echoing noises of an enclosed hall. You can sit back and relax while watching nature around you.

The leadership of the Apple City ARC haven't lost focus of this through the ears. even the young boy and girls attending had fun while trying to find two hidden transmitters during the bunny hunt. All ages whether young or old can relax and really be themselves.

The weather this years nice warm and lazy. Both on Friday and Saturday, the gang was able to sit back and watch the afternoon thunder showers slip by. Close enough for a small show, but far enough to keep things dry.

Let us not forget the early morning breakfast with the smell of fresh and and coffee in the air. The raffles, VE session and tail gate swapping. And what about the pot luck dinner to follow in the eve. You truly get the sense of the ham radio spirit at this annual family style event.

To everyone at the Apple City ARC...... Thank you so very much for making this a special event open to all. Your person dedication towards amateur radio is captured each and every year. There is a lot of hard work that goes into setting up an event. We look forward to seeing each and evry one of you next year.
